Program Assistant

Job Description

A seasonal position that works under the supervision of the Naturalist.  Duties include assisting the Naturalist with program planning, preparation, and presentations as well as general maintenance of the Nature Centr.  This includes, but is not limited to:  care of animals, cleaning of facilities, building displays, landscape work, mowing/trimming around building, public relations, working with volunteers, answering phone, staffing the building during open hours, and other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications:  Two years post high school education or high school graduate with related experience.  A background and/or srong interest in natural resource conservation, wildlife and fisheries, and the outdoors along with computer proficiency.  Must enjoy working with people and be willing to work flexible hours.  Driver's license required.  Requires full range of body motion, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs, working irregular hours, exposure to animals such as rodents, insects, snakes, turtles, fish, etc. domestic animals and other adverse environmental conditions.

Hours/Time of employment:  40 hours/week, including some weekend and holiday work.  Approximate work time is mid April to mid November, then one day a week from December through March.

Salary:  Up to $14/hr, depending on qualifications and experience
