Instructions
- Complete the entire application
- The Applicant’s signature must be notarized
- Include a copy of the Applicant’s current, government issued photo ID (driver’s license)
- Include payment of $15.00 per copy in the form of a check OR money order (if out of state) made payable to Crawford County Recorder
- Include self-addressed stamped envelope and mail to:

Entitlement
Certified Copies
Certified copies are available from our office if:
- The event took place in Iowa between 1954 - Present
- Certified copies can be obtained through any Iowa County Recorder's Office or the State Office for events during these dates.
- The event occurred between 1917 - 1953
- And the Marriage Application (not necessarily the wedding itself) occurred in Crawford County
Otherwise, the record is at the State Office. Request a record through the Iowa Department of Public Health website by clicking "Request Record" below.
Marriage Applications
Cost
Marriage Application is $35.00, which includes a free Certified Copy once you are married and the Certificate gets filed. The fee is due at the time your application is turned in.
If you pay by money order or cashier's check, please make it out to the Crawford County Recorder.
Instructions
- All signatures must be notarized (Party A, Party B and the witness — a competent and disinterested person)
- All parties (wedding couple and one witness that knows the wedding couple) need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid state-issued ID such as a driver's license
- After the day of application acceptance, there is a three-day wait after the date of application before you can pick it up to get married
- If a three-day waiver is needed it may be obtained from the Recorders Office but will need to be signed in front of a District Judge. There is an additional $5.00 fee for a waiver.
- Include phone numbers on the application
- If you apply for a marriage license in Iowa, you must get married in Iowa.
Identification

Waiting Period
There is a three-day wait after applying for a license before you can be married.
- Apply on Monday, the license will be valid on Friday
- Apply on Tuesday, the license will be valid on Saturday
- Apply on Wednesday, the license will be valid on Sunday
- Apply on Thursday, the license will be valid on the following Monday
- Apply on Friday, the license will be valid on the following Tuesday
